Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) adalah yayasan politik tertua di Jerman dengan tradisi demokrasi yang mengakar sejak berdirinya pada 1925. Yayasan ini berikut visinya dibentuk oleh Friedrich Ebert, Presiden Jerman pertama yang dipilih secara demokratis. Friedrich Ebert sebagai seorang Sosial Demokrat dari latar belakang masyarakat kebanyakan yang berhasil memegang jabatan politik tertinggi di negaranya, sebagai tanggapan terhadap pengalamannya yang panjang dalam konfrontasi politik, mendirikan yayasan ini dengan tujuan sebagai berikut:

  • memajukan pendidikan politik dan sosial seluruh lapisan masyarakat dalam semangat demokrasi dan pluralisme,
  • memfasilitasi akses kepada pendidikan tinggi (universitas) dan penelitian kepada anak-anak muda berbakat dalam bentuk beasiswa,
  • berkontribusi terhadap saling pengertian dan kerjasama internasional.

Sejak awal berdirinya, kerja-kerja yayasan ini didasarkan pada ide-ide dan nilai inti sosial demokrasi, yaitu kebebasan, keadilan dan solidaritas. Sikap ini menyatukan kami dengan keluarga besar sosial demokrat Jerman maupun dunia internasional. Namun sebagai lembaga nirlaba, kami melaksanakan kerja kami secara otonom dan independen.
